Map of the Metro in central Madrid

Diagram of the centre of the network, redrawn by us (not the official map). The tuk tuk marks Sol, where our tours start.

Sol is the heart of the network: lines 1, 2 and 3 cross there and it links to Cercanías. From Sol you can reach Ópera (Royal Palace), Atocha (Prado Museum and trains) and Plaza de España (Temple of Debod) by Metro. For the airport, line 8 leaves from Nuevos Ministerios. The full official map, with all 13 lines, is on the Metro de Madrid website. Download the Madrid Metro map as a PDF.

How to buy and top up

  1. Buy the Multi card (€2.50) at station machines. It is a rechargeable contactless card.
  2. Load single trips or the combined ticket. Single tickets expire on the day of purchase.
  3. Tap the card on the gate when you enter. For the airport, check the supplement is loaded.

If you will make many trips, compare with the tourist travel pass.
