Quick answer
There’s no single best tuk tuk tour: it depends on your group and your time. Compare eight things: private or shared, price per vehicle or per person, duration and stops, a live guide in your language, an electric vehicle, the meeting point, cancellation and recent reviews. For groups of 3 to 6, a private tour priced per tuk tuk usually works out cheaper per person.
The 8 things to compare
1. Private or shared
On a private tour it’s just your group and you set the pace. On a shared one you pay for your seat and ride with other people.
2. Price per vehicle or per person
Do the maths for your group. If you pay per tuk tuk, the more of you there are, the less each person pays; for one or two people, a per-person tour may work out cheaper.
3. Duration and stops
Look at which stops are included, not just the hours. One hour covers the historic centre; for the Bernabéu or Las Ventas you need at least 2 hours.
4. A live guide in your language
A driver-guide tells you the stories and answers your questions, which an audio guide can’t do. Ask which languages they offer.
5. An electric vehicle
An electric tuk tuk gives off no fumes, makes hardly any noise and, with its CERO (zero-emission) label, can drive through the city-centre Low Emission Zone.
6. Meeting point and pickup
Ideally it starts somewhere central and easy to find, and can pick you up at your hotel. Ask what pickup costs.
7. Cancellation and bad weather
Check how late you can cancel for free and what happens if it rains.
8. Recent reviews
Look beyond the rating: check how many reviews a company has and how recent they are, on Google Maps and Tripadvisor. Reviews that mention the guide tell you most about the tour.
Example: what each person pays
| People | 1-hour tour (per tuk tuk) | Per person |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | €100 | €50 |
| 4 | €100 | €25 |
