Quick answer
Few places are verified as open all night in Madrid: Chocolatería San Ginés in the centre, and the Bareto bar in terminal T4 at the airport, which their operators say are open 24 hours. For the rest of the night, your best bet is to eat at the airport or have dinner before 11 pm.
Places open 24 hours (verified)
- Chocolatería San Ginés (Pasadizo de San Ginés 5, next to Puerta del Sol): its official website says «open 24 hours every day of the year». Famous for churros with chocolate. It takes no reservations at weekends or during the Christmas campaign (15 November to 10 January), so expect queues. Another part of its website suggests that in the early hours it opens mostly Thursday to Saturday: check its website if you arrive midweek.
- Bareto, in terminal T4 at the airport (next to the arrivals hall): according to Aena's press release it is open 24 hours. It is a beer hall with dishes to share.
We left out places that other websites list as 24 h but whose hours we could not confirm. In 2025 the city council ordered a 24 h restaurant at Plaza de España to close for 30 days for serving at night without an approved extension of its opening hours (per trade press), so do not trust old sources.
If you land at the airport in the early hours
The airport never closes, and Bareto in T4 lets you eat something on arrival. To go into the centre at night, the Airport Express bus and taxis run 24 hours; the Metro closes at 1:30 am. See prices in how to get from the airport to the centre.
Tips for eating at odd hours
- Call or check the venue's website before you go: late-night hours change often.
- Ask your accommodation's reception if they offer late dinner or a food machine.
- Avoid places that approach you in the street or have menus with photos.
- Ask for the bill with prices before paying.
